A/Prof Heng joined Tan Tock Seng Hospital in 1996 after his residency. He underwent Cornea & Refractive Surgery Fellowship training in the world-renowned Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, which has been repeatedly ranked among the top 3 Eye Hospitals in US for the last 20 years. After his fellowship training, he was instrumental in introducing the Hospital Cornea Donation Programme to TTSH. He became Head of Cornea Service in 2004 and subsequently was also appointed Head of Refractive Surgery in 2007. A/Prof Heng is a nationally and internationally recognized specialist in corneal diseases, cataract and refractive surgery. As a cornea specialist, he is particularly experienced in performing LASIK, which is a surgical procedure that involves reshaping the cornea. His areas of expertise include determining whether patients are good candidates for LASIK, which is important in decreasing the risk of complications after LASIK. When complications occasionally occur, patients are referred from local and overseas eye centres to A/Prof Heng for his opinion and care.
A/Prof Heng has published numerous medical articles as well as co-authored a book entitled Colour Atlas and Synopsis of Cornea and External Eye Diseases in 2003. This book has benefited many Cornea trainees and fellows locally and internationally. A/Prof Heng has been invited to speak in medical conferences on Cornea, Refractive and Cataract Surgery in many countries such as United States, Italy, China, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam and has performed many live demonstration surgeries. He had been a recipient of numerous awards, including the Ministry of Health Human Manpower Development Plan Overseas Fellowship, Asia Pacific Association of Cornea and Refractive Surgery Educator Award, and Spring Singapore Excellence Service Star Award. He has served on many national committees including the Specialist Training Committee for Ophthalmology, Contact Lens Practitioner Board, College of Ophthalmologist, and Singapore Society of Ophthalmology. He is also an Examiner for local and overseas ophthalmology examinations and an instructor in LASIK and ophthalmic microsurgery courses.

Dr Fam Han Bor is active as a clinician, researcher and instructor, having given over 100 presentations in international and regional conferences. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals such as the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, the Journal of Refractive Surgery, the American Journal of Ophthalmology and the British Journal of Ophthalmology.
As an educator, he has conducted numerous LASIK instructional courses, medical-in-service and live surgeries throughout Asia. He is widely sought after as a respected global key-opinion leader in the field of phacoemulsification, intraocular lens design, refractive surgery, corneal topography, ocular wavefront aberrations and visual optics. He has a keen interest in the design and optimising of new phacoemulsification and intraocular lens technologies. He is an active member of the prestigious IOL Power Club, an export group dedicated to improving cataract outcomes.
His research interests lie in Visual Optics, Wavefront Science, IOP Calculations, Corneal Topography, Contact Lens and Eye Modeling and Biofilms.
He graduated from the National University of Singapore, with a Masters in Medicine (Ophthalmology) and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He received his subspecialty training in cornea and refractive surgery at the University of British Columbia, Canada.
